The Eagles enlist Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator following his departure from the Dolphins, lauding his exceptional defensive acumen.

Sirianni expressed confidence in Vic’s reputation, highlighting his extensive experience as a top-tier defensive coach in the league. He emphasized Vic’s profound understanding of the game, his passion, and his strong work ethic. Sirianni looks forward to the opportunity for their coaches and players to benefit from Vic’s expertise firsthand.

In terms of the Eagles’ defensive performance, they faced a significant decline in rankings from 2022 to 2023, dropping to 26th in yards allowed per game and 30th in points allowed per game. The team struggled towards the end of the regular season, losing five of their final six games, and suffered a heavy defeat against the Buccaneers in the wild-card round.

During this turbulent period, Desai retained his role as defensive coordinator, but Matt Patricia took over play-calling duties. Despite considering other candidates like Wink Martindale, Joe Barry, Ron Rivera, and Mike Caldwell, the Eagles ultimately pursued Vic Fangio, whose interest in joining the team was reported in 2023 but didn’t materialize due to timing constraints.

With Vic now onboard, the Eagles are optimistic about revitalizing their defense for the upcoming seasons. Mike McDaniel, the head coach, thanked Vic for his contributions in 2023 and expressed the organization’s commitment to finding the best candidate to lead their defense moving forward, emphasizing their dedication to player development and sustained success.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins faced challenges due to injuries, which affected their defensive lineup towards the end of the season, ultimately impacting their performance in the wild-card game against the Chiefs.
