Tennessee football recruiting update: George MacIntyre, the second-ranked quarterback for the class of 2025, commits to the Vols.

Tennessee landed a significant commitment from in-state recruit George MacIntyre for the 2025 class. The quarterback confirmed his decision to join the Volunteers at a ceremony held at Brentwood Academy near Nashville, Tennessee. MacIntyre is regarded as the 16th best prospect overall and the third-ranked quarterback in his recruiting class, according to a consensus from four major national recruiting services, all of which have designated him as a four-star prospect. He opted for Tennessee over other SEC contenders Alabama and LSU. Despite LSU securing Bryce Underwood for the position, the competition seemed to narrow down to Tennessee and Alabama, both of which MacIntyre visited multiple times. He was among the initial prospects whom new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer and his team re-offered following the retirement of head coach Nick Saban.

Described as a tall quarterback with strong potential as a passer and playmaker, MacIntyre stands at 6-foot-6 and possesses a compact throwing motion with considerable arm strength, allowing him to make throws across the field and downfield with ease.

During his time at Brentwood, MacIntyre accumulated 5,570 passing yards and threw 44 touchdowns while being intercepted 16 times over two seasons.

Tennessee has recently bolstered its quarterback roster with notable acquisitions. Prior to MacIntyre, Nico Iamaleava, ranked second nationally at the position and overall, signed with the Volunteers in 2023. Additionally, they secured Jake Merklinger, a four-star quarterback who ranked in the top 15 at his position, after he threw 38 touchdowns during his senior year. Iamaleava is expected to be the primary starter for Tennessee in 2024, but the depth chart beyond him remains uncertain, with Merklinger and MacIntyre offering promising options for the team’s future development.
