Two assistant coaches from the Rams secure a second interview with the Patriots – Tracking their progress.

JAN 28 RAMS ASSISTANTS EYEING BOSTON? The Los Angeles Rams coaching staff has been in high demand across the NFL this offseason, with Zac Robinson and Raheem Morris already securing new positions.

However, they aren’t the only assistants attracting attention league-wide.

Reports suggest Rams special teams assistant Jeremy Springer and tight ends coach Nick Caley are both set for second interviews with the New England Patriots under new head coach Jerod Mayo.

Caley is up for the Patriots’ offensive coordinator role, while Springer is in contention for Special Teams coordinator.

The Rams’ tight ends played a pivotal role in the offense last season, with Tyler Higbee and Davis Allen making significant contributions during the team’s playoff run.

JAN 14 STAFFORD’S UNCONVENTIONAL THROW Matthew Stafford has a reputation for making unconventional throws throughout his career.

In the Rams’ Wild Card matchup against the Lions in Detroit, he demonstrated this once again, connecting with tight end Davis Allen on a remarkable no-look pass for six yards to evade a sack.

Stafford has a history of delivering such throws in crucial moments, reminiscent of his pass to Cooper Kupp in Super Bowl LVI during the game’s decisive drive.

JAN 12 PATS APPOINT MAYO The New England Patriots have named former linebacker and assistant coach Jerod Mayo as their new head coach, succeeding the legendary Bill Belichick after his 24-season tenure.

Mayo, now the NFL’s youngest head coach, takes the title from Rams leader Sean McVay, who held the distinction for the past seven years.

McVay was appointed by the Rams at 30 years old in 2017, following three seasons as the Washington Commanders’ offensive coordinator.

Mayo, born on February 23, 1986, is just one month younger than McVay, born on January 24 of the same year.

JAN 8 RAMS RELEASE DEFENSIVE END The Los Angeles Rams made a minor roster move by waiving defensive end Earnest Brown IV.

Brown, who turned 25 on Monday, joined the Rams as a fifth-round pick from Northwestern in 2021.

Although he started three of the five games he played in 2022, registering nine total tackles, he was waived after appearing in seven games this season and recording five total tackles, with three in Sunday’s win over the San Francisco 49ers.

More roster adjustments are likely before Sunday’s playoff opener against the Detroit Lions.

JAN 6 WILLIAMS IN Despite several players being sidelined for the San Francisco 49ers’ season finale against the Rams, veteran left tackle Trent Williams is expected to play.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Williams’ availability, although the extent of his playing time remains uncertain.

Shanahan emphasized the importance of Williams maintaining momentum by avoiding extended breaks, indicating the necessity of his readiness for the game.

JAN 3 KUPP AND DONALD BENCHED With a playoff spot secured, the Los Angeles Rams plan to rest multiple starters in Sunday’s Week 18 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford will sit out, with Carson Wentz starting in his place. Additionally, running back Kyren Williams, wide receiver Cooper Kupp, and defensive lineman Aaron Donald are reportedly set to miss the game.

While Williams and Kupp have been sidelined for four games due to injuries this season, Sunday’s match will mark their fifth absence.

Donald, a stalwart presence, has played all 16 games this season, making 53 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 23 quarterback hits, and eight sacks.
