Oklahoma Secures Fourth Offensive Lineman via Transfer Portal
Former Washington offensive lineman Geirean Hatchett declared his decision to transfer to Oklahoma on Monday afternoon. This move comes after Hatchett entered the transfer portal last Thursday following four years with the Huskies, during which he saw limited playing time, particularly in his final two seasons.
In the 2023 season, the 6-foot-4, 303-pound guard received a 59.8 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus, a decline from his 2022 grade of 72.6. As a redshirt junior, he participated in 264 offensive snaps in Kalen DeBoer’s offense, earning a 45.5 pass blocking grade and a 62.0 run blocking grade, according to PFF. In the preceding year, Hatchett played only 71 snaps, concluding with a 67.0 pass blocking grade and a 70.1 run blocking grade. While most of his playing time at Washington occurred at right guard, he briefly appeared at left guard against Texas in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
Hatchett, originally from Ferndale, WA, was a highly regarded 4-star recruit in high school, ranked as the No. 8 guard and No. 207 overall player according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
The Sooners’ loss of several guards, including Cayden Green, Caleb Shaffer, McKade Mettauer, Savion Byrd, and Nate Anderson, makes Hatchett’s commitment crucial for Bill Bedenbaugh and his team as Oklahoma transitions into the SEC. Additionally, other notable additions to the offensive line include Febechi Nwaiwu, Michael Tarquin, and Spencer Brown, who transferred to Norman during the offseason.
Oklahoma faces the task of rebuilding its offensive line for the 2024 season, with departures such as Andrew Raym, Tyler Guyton, Walter Rouse, Mettauer, and Green. However, with the inclusion of four veteran offensive linemen from the transfer portal and the return of Jacob Sexton and others, Bedenbaugh anticipates having a solid group to work with during spring practice.
