Softball Unveils Schedule for the Year 2024.
Norman – The Oklahoma softball team, the current three-time national champions under head coach Patty Gasso, revealed its 2024 schedule on Tuesday. The Sooners will play 22 games at Love’s Field, their newly established softball venue.
The season kicks off on Feb. 8 at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, with the home opener scheduled for March 1 and Big 12 conference play commencing on March 8.
Facing off against 16 schools that participated in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, including six Super Regional participants and two Women’s College World Series qualifiers, the Sooners have a challenging schedule. Fifteen of the matchups are against teams that were ranked in both final 2023 national polls, with an additional seven games featuring opponents who received votes in both final polls.
Under Coach Gasso’s 29-year tenure, the Sooners have consistently reached the postseason, making 13 consecutive trips to Super Regionals and earning 16 appearances in the WCWS, resulting in seven national championships.
The 2024 season begins at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Mexico, featuring games against Utah Valley, Duke, Washington, and Long Beach State. Subsequent tournaments include matchups against McNeese State, Central Arkansas, Lamar, Mississippi State, Wisconsin, San Diego State, Notre Dame, and Loyola Marymount.
The much-anticipated opening of Love’s Field on March 1 will be marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony before the Sooners face off against Miami (OH) and Liberty. A homestand follows with games against Louisiana, Liberty, and a midweek contest against Texas A&M Commerce on March 6.
The Big 12 season kicks off with a series against Iowa State at Love’s Field from March 8-10, and the homestand concludes with a midweek game against Tarleton State on March 12.
Road trips include a series at Texas Tech from March 15-17 and a clash with UT Arlington on March 20. The series against Baylor from March 22-24 will start at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City before moving to Love’s Field.
A seven-game road stretch begins with a midweek game at Wichita State on March 26, followed by weekend series at Kansas (March 26-28) and Texas (April 5-7).
April features matchups against BYU at Love’s Field (April 11-13), a midweek tilt against Tulsa at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium on April 16, and a series against Houston at home (April 19-21), followed by a road series at UCF (April 26-28).
The Bedlam Series presented by Phillips 66 concludes the regular season at Love’s Field from May 3-5. Postseason action begins with the Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship in Oklahoma City from May 8-11 at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium, with NCAA Regionals set for May 17-19 and Super Regionals scheduled for May 24-26 at host institutions.
