Falcons name Zac Robinson as the offensive coordinator, while Jimmy Lake takes charge of the defense.

Atlanta Falcons coach Raheem Morris initiated the formation of his coaching staff on Monday, assigning Zac Robinson as the offensive coordinator and Jimmy Lake to oversee the defense.

Both Robinson and Lake joined Morris from the Los Angeles Rams, where Morris previously held the position of defensive coordinator before securing the head coaching role with the Falcons last week.

Additionally, Morris confirmed the retention of Marquice Williams as the special teams coordinator, a position he held for the past three years under the previous head coach, Arthur Smith.

Smith was dismissed shortly after the Falcons concluded their third consecutive 7-10 season.

Robinson, who served as the Rams’ quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator in the last two seasons, will be tasked with leading an offense that boasts promising talents such as former first-round picks Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and Bijan Robinson. The team, however, faced challenges in settling on a consistent quarterback during the past season, with Smith alternating between Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke without notable success. The Falcons are expected to seek an upgrade at the quarterback position through free agency, a trade, or the draft.

During his time with the Rams, Robinson collaborated with quarterback Matthew Stafford, who achieved his second Pro Bowl selection with 3,865 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Lake, a former head coach at the University of Washington, took on the role of assistant head coach in Los Angeles after the conclusion of his brief tenure leading Washington’s football program. His coaching stint at Washington lasted less than two years, ending in his dismissal with three games remaining in the 2021 season, concluding with a 7-6 record.
