The Browns are poised to bring on board a former quarterback to assume the role of the new Offensive Coordinator.
The Cleveland Browns underwent significant changes in their coaching staff earlier this offseason, leading head coach Kevin Stefanski to seek a new offensive coordinator after Alex Van Pelt’s departure. After interviewing several candidates, it seems Stefanski has found his choice.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Browns are set to bring in Ken Dorsey as their new offensive coordinator. Dorsey is no stranger to the Dawg Pound, having previously played as a quarterback for the team from 2006 to 2008.
Following his playing career, Dorsey climbed the coaching ranks and gained recognition for his contributions to the Carolina Panthers. This eventually led to a coaching role with the Buffalo Bills in 2019, and he was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2022 after Brian Daboll moved on to the New York Giants. During Dorsey’s first year as OC, Buffalo’s offense performed exceptionally well, ranking second in both total yards and points.
Despite this success, the Bills faced challenges in the following season, leading to Dorsey’s dismissal in November. While his swift ascent and subsequent setback might raise concerns, Stefanski remains the definitive leader in Cleveland. It’s worth noting that Dorsey’s hiring doesn’t imply sole reliance on him for the Browns’ success. Stefanski may continue to handle play-calling duties, a likely reason why Dorsey was chosen over other candidates who might prefer to shape the offense in their own way. Additionally, Dorsey’s previous work with star quarterback Josh Allen could prove beneficial as the Browns aim for a successful year with Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback in 2024.
