Former Saints linebacker passes away at the age of 32.
In New Orleans, the NFL Players Association reported the passing of former New Orleans Saints linebacker Ronald Powell on Tuesday. Selected by the Saints in the fifth round of the 2014 draft, Powell passed away at the age of 32 on Monday. The cause of death for the former University of Florida standout remains undisclosed, as reported by WWL Louisiana media partner Nola.com.
Former Saints defensive end Junior Galette paid tribute to his former teammate on social media on Monday, expressing his sorrow and remembering Powell as an exceptional father, respected brother, and loving son. Powell’s career was hindered by a knee injury in 2015. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 250 pounds, the Riverside, Calif., native spent time on the practice squads of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, and the Seattle Seahawks over the following two seasons before concluding his career with the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football in 2019.
