D’Angelo Russell of the Lakers has been fined $15,000 for kicking the ball into the stands following the Warriors game.

On Monday, the NBA declared that D’Angelo Russell, the guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, received a $15,000 fine for kicking the ball into the stands following his team’s 145-144 double-overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday.

It marked a costly conclusion to a remarkable game for Russell, who contributed 28 points and five assists during his 49 minutes of play. Additionally, he demonstrated his prowess in crucial moments by sinking a transition three-pointer in the last minute to secure the lead for the Lakers.

Since returning to the starting lineup on January 13th, TRussell has shown a remarkable resurgence, averaging 27.5 points and 6.4 assists over the course of eight games. The Lakers have won five out of those eight games, clearly benefiting from their point guard’s shift in mindset.
He informed journalists that observing the team during his absence from games due to injury led him to recognize the necessity of adopting a more aggressive playing style alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
“Just observing the game, I noticed our team making a concerted effort to feed LeBron and AD the ball, sometimes resulting in awkward situations like dribbling errors or forced plays. It became clear that to be effective around such players, you need to assertively attack rather than solely focus on passing to them. Playing that way makes you predictable and easier to defend against. Upon returning, I made a conscious decision to be more aggressive in those scenarios, and I’ve seen how it enhances their performance. It’s been working well for us.”

The Lakers’ decision to retain Russell moving forward is uncertain. Their performance this season has been disappointing, with a record of just 24-23, and Russell may be among the players traded before the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 8 if the team aims to make significant changes.

Doubts persist about Russell’s defensive capabilities and his reliability as a third option in the postseason, especially given his struggles in that role during last year’s Western Conference Finals. Nonetheless, he is currently showcasing outstanding basketball skills.
