The Seattle Seahawks’ hunt for a new head coach is approaching its end.
The Seattle Seahawks are nearing the end of their search for a new head coach, as they engage in interviews with two highly sought-after assistants.
Reports indicate that the Seahawks are scheduled to interview Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald on Tuesday. This development follows a second interview conducted with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson on Monday.
Johnson and Macdonald became available for interviews following the elimination of their respective teams in the conference championship games on Sunday.
After completing the interview with Macdonald, there are rumors that the Seahawks may swiftly decide on Pete Carroll’s successor.
At 36 years old, Macdonald will have his initial interview with the Seahawks. He led the Ravens’ defense, which topped the NFL in points allowed (16.5), sacks (60), and takeaways (31). Meanwhile, Johnson, 37, underwent his second interview with the Seahawks. He played a pivotal role in crafting the Lions’ offense, which ranked third in total yards and fifth in scoring during the season.
Both Macdonald and Johnson are highly coveted candidates in this hiring cycle, prompting the Seahawks to expedite their decision-making process if they intend to secure either candidate.
The Washington Commanders, the only other team still in search of a head coach, also interviewed Macdonald on Monday and are reportedly scheduled to conduct an interview with him on Tuesday.
Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn underwent a second interview with the Seahawks last week. Quinn previously served as the defensive coordinator with the Seahawks under Carroll during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Additionally, the Seahawks have held interviews with New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, and Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero.
Quinn, Johnson, and Macdonald are regarded as the top three candidates for the Seahawks’ head coaching position.
