Nottingham Forest defender Scott McKenna is expected to leave the Premier League club before the transfer deadline
Scott McKenna, who has been linked to Rangers and Celtic, is apparently planning to finalize his departure from Premier League team Nottingham Forest prior to the January transfer deadline.
The Scotland international’s only six appearances for the English premier league team this year came as a substitute in the team’s 3-2 FA Cup replay victory over Blackpool of EFL League One earlier this month.
Both Glasgow giants were reportedly interested in signing the strong center-back at the beginning of January. The Ibrox team appeared to have the upper hand in the competition for his services when it became known that Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers was looking at other defensive options.
But it appears that McKenna’s future is now elsewhere, as many reports from below the border state that the 27-year-old will be joining FC Copenhagen, the Danish Superliga winners, within the next 24 hours.
McKenna wants to play regular football, according to Daily Telegraph reporter John Percy, in an effort to solidify his spot in Steve Clarke’s Scotland team before the summer’s European Championships in Germany. On X, formerly Twitter, Percy posted the following: “Another outgoing at #nffc: Scott McKenna, a Scotland international, is expected to sign with #FCCopenhagen. Fantastic chance for McKenna, who needs to play a lot of football before the Euros (Copenhagen also plays Man C in the UECL next month).
It’s yet unknown if the agreement to join Copenhagen, who are getting ready for the start of their new season in Denmark, is a loan deal or a permanent one. Given that the player’s contract expires at the conclusion of the season, it is anticipated that any associated fees would be quite little.
