A single analyst holds the opinion that the Pittsburgh Steelers lack a viable quarterback solution.
In Pittsburgh, the Steelers are eager for improved quarterback performance this season and are committed to securing competition for Kenny Pickett before spring arrives. While Mason Rudolph stands as their primary choice, there’s uncertainty about whether he’s their optimal solution. According to an ESPN analyst, the team must aim higher to succeed in playoff matches.
During NFL Live, Marcus Spears of ESPN emphasized the necessity for the Steelers to enhance their quarterback position in the upcoming offseason. Simply settling for Pickett or Rudolph won’t suffice to break their playoff victory drought.
“Mr. Rooney, are you prepared for a quarterback upgrade? Because that’s what’s necessary for progress,” Spears remarked. “I’m not discrediting anyone. Mason Rudolph performed decently for them toward the end. Kenny Pickett is young, and perhaps you don’t want to give up on him. However, I don’t believe there’s a quarterback on your roster capable of taking you where you aspire to be, Rooney. If you don’t address this, I fear you’ll face impatience once more next offseason.”
Steelers President Art Rooney II and head coach Mike Tomlin have expressed their desire for Rudolph to come back to the team as a potential starter. However, if he doesn’t return, it’s unclear which direction they will take for competition with Pickett.
Suggestions have been made regarding potential candidates such as Jacoby Brissett and Sam Darnold. Additionally, there’s speculation that bringing in Arthur Smith as offensive coordinator could pave the way for to join the team.
At present, they will make do with their current options, but there are differing opinions on whether it will be sufficient.
