A.J. Brown Minimizes Trade Speculation After Eagles’ Season Ends Disappointingly.
The Philadelphia Eagles ended their year on a challenging note, dropping six of their last seven games of the season. Adding to their woes, wide receiver A.J. Brown was absent during wild-card weekend, and his absence was palpably felt during the game.
There is no indication that the Eagles are considering trading Brown, and the seasoned wide receiver continues to dismiss such speculation. Speaking with Sports Illustrated’s Robin Lundberg, Brown acknowledged his past experiences with trades and expressed a lack of concern regarding the possibility of being traded again.
“I’ve been through this before, I’m a vet at this point,” Brown stated. “If something happens then my phone will ring, and I’ll be waiting, and if not, I’ve built my time.”
Philadelphia acquired Brown on draft night in 2022 and promptly inked him to a four-year, $100 million contract extension. Since then, Brown has delivered consecutive seasons with at least 1,400 receiving yards and a combined 18 receiving touchdowns.
However, when specifically asked by Lundberg if he was gearing up to play for the Eagles in 2024, Brown notably refrained from committing one way or the other.
“I’m prepared to focus on my family at home and get better in the offseason, then just seeing where this thing goes,” he remarked.
Brown is under contract until 2026 and is slated to count just over $12 million against the cap next season. While the Eagles are unlikely to trade Brown as long as they remain competitive, the unpredictable nature of the NFL means that anything can happen.
