Phil Kessel, a former forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, is reportedly maintaining communication with NHL teams and harbors optimism about making a comeback.

Phil Kessel is reportedly determined to continue his NHL career, as revealed in TSN’s Tuesday edition of Insider Trading. According to Pierre LeBrun, the 36-year-old forward is actively in touch with NHL teams and remains hopeful of securing a spot on a roster for the current season. Despite not being under contract this season, Kessel’s camp is reportedly in contact with a couple of teams.

LeBrun highlighted that one consideration in Kessel’s case is the fact that he hasn’t played since last year. Some teams may propose that he joins them for a trial period to assess his current form. Kessel, who last played with the Vegas Golden Knights in April, has been actively skating to stay prepared.

Following the recent signings of Zach Parise and Corey Perry, LeBrun speculates whether Kessel might also find a team before March 8th. Kessel, known for his remarkable Ironman streak, has played 1,064 consecutive regular-season games, a record for the most consecutive games dressed.

Chris Johnston, an NHL insider, noted that Kessel is open to breaking his Ironman streak if it contributes to the success of the team he joins. Kessel has reportedly explored the option of playing in Switzerland while awaiting an NHL deal.

Despite not being under contract this season, Kessel’s determination and ongoing discussions with NHL teams signal his eagerness to make a comeback. The veteran forward, with three Stanley Cups to his name, remains an intriguing figure in the current hockey landscape.
