Celtic has allegedly received a transfer ultimatum from Lecce regarding Gustaf Lagerbielke. Lecce, a Serie A club, had shown significant interest in the Swedish center-back during the January transfer window. However, a proposed loan agreement to Italy faced a setback due to concerns about an injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers at Parkhead.
Despite the hurdle, Lecce reportedly remains interested in Lagerbielke. Nevertheless, if Celtic decides to retain the 23-year-old, Lecce is prepared to explore alternative transfer targets. According to The Scottish Sun, Lecce has set a deadline for Celtic to provide clarity on Lagerbielke’s transfer status by Wednesday.
Should Lagerbielke remain with Celtic, Lecce may redirect their interest to other options in the final hours of the transfer window.
The Swedish international, acquired from Elfsborg for £3 million in the summer, has featured in just nine matches for Celtic this season. His most recent appearance for the club occurred as a brief stint against St Mirren on January 2, marking his first league showing since September.
Expressing his desire to join Lecce, Lagerbielke publicly stated to Tuttomarcatoweb: “Lecce has expressed significant interest in me. I am eager to go, play, and make a meaningful contribution. Every footballer dreams of competing in top leagues, and Serie A has been a dream of mine since childhood. The fact that many Scandinavian players have played for Lecce would be advantageous for me in terms of settling in.”
