Bill O’Brien, the former offensive coordinator for the fresh England Patriots, accepted a fresh job offer this offseason to take the same role at Ohio State. With recent opportunities, may he switch to a different opportunity?

After head coach Jeff Hafley decided to step back into the NFL on Wednesday as the defensive coordinator of the Green Bay Packers, Boston College now has an unexpected opening.

BC may need to go outside the box when selecting the next head coach for the university because this is an odd moment to need a leader. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic suggested O’Brien as a possible fit when evaluating potential fits.

O’Brien is a high-risk candidate, according to Feldman’s Thursday post. He was once a Brown player and is originally from Boston. He made a pass at the BC position it created. Even though he was at Penn State during a difficult period, he performed admirably. Before going on to the NFL, he went 15–9. He recently accepted a position at Ohio State OC, so the timing might be off, but he might find this one interesting in certain ways.

Given his upbringing and experience with the Patriots in New England, along with his impressive performance at Penn State in the Power Five conference, O’Brien seems like a good fit for the position. In the end, O’Brien must determine whether returning to the head coach position would be more desirable for the school than serving as a coordinator at Ohio State’s prestigious program.

Feldman mentioned former New England defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who played collegiate ball for BC, as a possible choice in addition to his other Patriots connections.
