Jessic Ngankam completes move to Mainz 05.
Town pursued an ambitious loan inquiry for Ngankam, Eintracht Frankfurt’s young German striker, in their quest for a new forward at Portman Road. However, securing the 23-year-old German youth international always seemed like a challenging prospect. Instead, Ngankam has opted to join FSV Mainz 05 on loan for the remainder of the season. Mainz 05 currently sits second from the bottom in the Bundesliga.
Expressing his anticipation for the new challenge, Ngankam stated, “I’m looking forward to the new challenge, I think I’ll fit well into the team and the playing system here. I already know some of the guys like Jonny Burkardt, Marco Richter, and Tom Krauss, and now I want to work with my new teammates to give everything so that we can stay in the league.”
Mainz sports director Christian Heidel commented on Ngankam’s qualities, saying, “Jessic is a young, physically robust player who has a lot of speed and joy in the game. He made a name for himself with strong performances at Hertha BSC, but now his development at Eintracht Frankfurt has stalled a bit. Here in Mainz, he has the chance to make a new attempt, earn playing time, and contribute with goals.”
