According to Guilherme Alves, an internal update from Cruzeiro indicates that Jose Cifuentes’ transfer from Rangers is nearly complete, with close to a 100% certainty. The Versus Esporte journalist shared on Twitter on the late hours of January 31st that there is a positive outlook, expecting the deal to be finalized in the coming hours.

Alves, when translated into English, conveyed that the discussions between Cruzeiro and José Cifuentes are nearing a resolution. Based on internal discussions with individuals, it is perceived as nearly 100% certain. Although the contract is not officially signed, there is optimism that it will be finalized in the coming hours.

Additionally, Sam Lammers, another summer acquisition at Ibrox who faced challenges, has already departed on loan to FC Utrecht in January

Rangers and Cifuentes must find it equally disheartening that his transfer to Glasgow turned out to be a regrettable decision. Michael Beale had pursued the Ecuadorian for weeks before his late-window arrival in the summer. Initially showing promise as a crucial addition to the team’s midfield, the former LAFC player struggled to maintain consistent form, with fitness issues preventing a prolonged spell in the starting lineup.

The club had the opportunity to make a profit if Cifuentes had completed the Rizespor deal they had agreed upon. However, it remains uncertain whether the financial terms of a potential move to Brazil would be comparable.

While finding a solution swiftly, especially one that includes financial gains, would be a positive response to the challenging situation, time is running out, and it’s uncertain if the deal will be finalized.

If it doesn’t happen then Philippe Clement could in theory still use him, but having spent big on a loan-to-buy obligation for Mohamed Diomande it doesn’t seem likely in the immediate term, so it looks to be in everyone’s interest for a Cifuentes move to go through
