Senators’ Jake Sanderson leaves match against Red Wings due to lower-body injury.
Ottawa Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson was compelled to exit Wednesday’s matchup against the Detroit Red Wings due to a lower-body injury.
Sanderson, 21, who has accumulated 24 points (seven goals and 17 assists) in 46 games this season, his second in the NHL, had to depart the Senators bench during the first period and did not reappear for the second.
The circumstances surrounding Sanderson’s injury, including when and how it occurred, were not immediately clear.
Standing at six-foot-two, the blue liner was drafted by Ottawa as the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Following Wednesday’s game, the Senators are scheduled to have a break until their next match against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 10.
