Following their collapse at the conclusion of the 2023 season, the Philadelphia Eagles made a number of substantial changes to their coaching staff, most of them centered upon the offensive line. For one, AJ Brown was not taken aback.

When an offense struggles as much as Philadelphia’s did in the closing minutes, Brown acknowledged to Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press that “someone has to be the bad guy.” He also did not appear overly upset with the team’s choice to remove offensive coordinator Brian Johnson.

In this league, if things don’t work out, someone needs to be the bad guy. It didn’t surprise me,” Brown remarked. As I have stated, the players’ execution and playmaking are what matter when it comes to the OC role, no matter who fills it. Since I have a task to complete, I myself am not tied to whoever holds the OC role. I have to answer when someone calls me on my number.”

Following the Eagles’ playoff defeat, Johnson lost his position, and Kellen Moore, the former offensive coordinator for the Cowboys and Chargers, took over. Moore’s offenses have produced impressive results, which might be advantageous for Brown.

Brown was clearly frustrated down the stretch as the offense sputtered, which may be part of the reason he does not seem too upset about these changes.
