Before the 2022 NFL season, the Cleveland Browns granted quarterback Deshaun Watson an extraordinary contract, marking one of the most unprecedented deals in the league’s history. However, Watson’s appearances on the field have been limited, with only 12 games played since then.

Last season, Watson participated in merely six games, facing setbacks due to two separate shoulder injuries. His shoulder issues led to a season-ending surgery on November 21, and he has been undergoing rehabilitation since then. Speaking at the end of January, Watson estimated another four to five weeks before resuming activities, followed by an additional three weeks, putting him on track to start throwing around April, if all goes well.

During his time with the Cleveland Browns, Deshaun Watson has accumulated 2,217 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. When questioned about Watson’s future, Browns General Manager Andrew Berry expressed optimism but highlighted the importance of Watson staying healthy. Berry emphasized the team’s ongoing self-assessment across all facets of operations, acknowledging the need for adjustments, even in successful seasons. Despite the excitement surrounding Watson, the challenge lies in ensuring his well-being on the field.

The Browns face a challenging financial situation due to Watson’s hefty $230 million fully guaranteed contract, making it difficult to create salary cap space for additional roster improvements.
