The Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson believes will be crucial to the team’s title challenge in the Scottish Premiership this year has been identified.
Even though the 25-year-old hasn’t played more than 58 minutes in a game since the beginning of January, the former Rangers captain believes Todd Cantwell can be Philippe Clement’s primary man [Transfermarkt].
Cantwell was recently substituted at halftime against both Hibs and St Mirren, which sparked debate among commentators and raised suspicions among supporters.
However, Ferguson feels the Belgian views the playmaker as one of his Rangers team’s most valuable assets heading into the second part of the season and sees nothing nefarious in Clement’s relationship with Cantwell.
Ferguson, in his Daily Record column, acknowledges that Cantwell should be watching closely now that Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande joined the team in January, but the 46-year-old still believes he can make a significant impact for Celtic in the title fight.
Regarding Todd Cantwell, Barry Ferguson stated: “At this club, standing still should never be an option.” Because Todd Cantwell is still, in my opinion, one of the most skilled and talented players in the nation, I’m really interested to watch how he reacts to the recent comings and goings.
“I’ve had some experience playing with them. Their name is game changers. And Cantwell is unquestionably in that category.
