Four Los Angeles Rams players were selected to participate in the NFL Pro Bowl. Only two, though, will actually play because Matthew Stafford apparently withdrew from the event.

Four players were selected to the Pro Bowl following the Los Angeles Rams’ surprising playoff run this past season. But only two players will take part in the NFL’s version of the All-Star game since Matthew Stafford, the starting quarterback for the Rams, has withdrawn.

The Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Duggar reports that Geno Smith, a fellow NFC West signal-caller, will take Stafford’s spot.

The 35-year-old Baker Mayfield of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers replaces Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott as the second quarterback in the NFC to be elected to the Pro Bowl before choosing to opt out.

In contrast to Prescott, who allegedly decided not to play in the Pro Bowl, the Rams’ star quarterback has not provided an explanation for why he will be present for the festivities, which begin on Thursday with the skills competition.

Nonetheless, a lot of people can surmise that Stafford’s absence from action was because of a possible injury sustained during the previous campaign.

Thus, although fans won’t be able to watch Aaron Donald or Stafford, the Rams will still be represented by receiver Puka Nacua and running back Kyren Williams.
