Jackson Lampley submits declaration supporting Tennessee, Virginia
Josh Heupel talks about his recruiting strategy at Tennessee
Tennessee offensive lineman Jackson Lampley, along with athletic director Danny White and Spyre Sports co-founder James Clawson, have been named as defendants in a lawsuit filed by the state of Tennessee and the Commonwealth of Virginia against the NCAA. This legal action stems from the NCAA’s announcement of an investigation into the University of Tennessee regarding alleged improper recruiting violations.
Lampley provided a detailed six-page testimony outlining the current landscape of college football and offered a player’s perspective on NIL (Name, Image, Likeness). White released a statement on his X account, asserting that “100% of major programs” engage in similar practices.
In his testimony, Lampley emphasized that the signing of the Letter of Intent (LOI) marks the conclusion of the recruiting process, prohibiting competing schools from contacting the recruit. However, he noted that some athletes make non-binding ‘verbal’ commitments before signing the LOI, leaving room for reconsideration. Lampley highlighted how recruits may express openness to hearing from other schools, potentially leveraging one opportunity against another.
Furthermore, Lampley discussed his discussions with prospective recruits regarding NIL, indicating its significance in their college decisions.
