An insider connects the Edmonton Oilers with forwards from the Penguins and Kraken as the center market intensifies.
Chris Johnston from TSN Sportscentre has provided insights into the Edmonton Oilers’ efforts to bolster their forward roster before the trade deadline. Amidst a fluctuating season for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Jake Guentzel has emerged as a potential acquisition target for the Oilers. Guentzel’s skill set could significantly elevate the Oilers’ top six, prompting adjustments to the lineup for players such as Warren Foegele or Evander Kane, thus strengthening the team’s depth.
As the market for centers intensifies, the Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Seattle Kraken find themselves in the midst of intriguing trade discussions. Johnston mentioned, “Oilers would like to add an impact forward before the deadline, names Guentzel and Eberle as possible targets, but Pens have not decided what they want to do with Guentzel, and Seattle is still in the wildcard race.”
In this potential trade scenario, Cody Ceci, with ties to both Penguins coach Mike Sullivan and GM Kyle Dubas from his tenure in Toronto, emerges as a logical acquisition. Ceci’s defensive stability could address the Penguins’ needs. However, any trade between the two teams would necessitate careful consideration of salary cap logistics, possibly involving retained salaries or the involvement of a third team to balance financial aspects.
Dubas, known for his adept management of complex transactions, may seek a combination of a first-round pick and promising prospects like Xavier Bourgault or Philip Broberg from the Oilers to finalize the deal.
Turning to the NHL trade rumor mill, veteran center Adam Henrique of the Anaheim Ducks has garnered attention, with speculation suggesting potential interest from the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers. Henrique, known for his crafty net-front scoring and hockey intelligence, could be a valuable addition for both teams. Despite being under contract with the Ducks since 2018, Henrique has demonstrated consistent performances this season, tallying 32 points in 48 games.
Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff noted, “Henrique would allow the Oil to keep Ryan McLeod on the wing or load up with McDavid and Draisaitl on the same line for stretches,” making him an intriguing option for the Edmonton Oilers. Similarly, an enhancement to their bottom six could make Henrique a feasible move for the Toronto Maple Leafs as well.
