Arkansas football experiences the departure of a four-star wide receiver from the 2024 class.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Despite being one of the prized assets in Arkansas football’s 2024 recruiting class, wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman will not be taking the field for the Razorbacks.
As per an Arkansas representative, Bethel-Roman has been granted release from his national letter of intent and is set to commit to another institution. This development coincides with Arkansas losing wide receivers coach Kenny Guiton to Wisconsin earlier in the offseason.
Ranked as the third-highest recruit in Arkansas’ class by 247sports, Bethel-Roman holds the position of the No. 35 wide receiver nationally and the No. 210 player overall.
Initially opting for Arkansas over contenders such as Texas A&M, Oregon, and Texas Tech, Bethel-Roman, a Missouri City, Texas native, committed to Arkansas in July, although he nearly changed allegiance to the Aggies on Signing Day in December.
Arkansas’ sole high school wide receiver in the 2024 class now stands as Krosse Johnson, a three-star prospect from New Orleans whom Arkansas did not actively recruit until the week of National Signing Day.
“Obviously, nobody knew about Krosse Johnson. I didn’t either until about 3-4 days ago when we felt like we may lose a receiver,” Pittman remarked on Dec. 20. “We needed another high school receiver, we needed speed.”
While Arkansas boasts an ample array of receivers on the roster, including Andrew Armstrong, Isaac TeSlaa, and Tyrone Broden returning in 2024, the team faces a dearth of promising underclassmen. Two freshmen receivers from 2023, Davion Dozier and Dazmin James, will strive to secure regular playing time this upcoming season.
