After completing nine seasons in his professional football career, former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Sean Mannion has officially announced his retirement from the NFL, according to a report by ESPN’s Brady Henderson. Transitioning from player to coach, Mannion will be part of the Green Bay Packers’ coaching staff as he embarks on the next chapter of his football journey.

While his specific title is yet to be disclosed, it is reported that Mannion will be involved in working with the Packers’ quarterbacks and passing game. Henderson noted on X that Mannion’s intelligence and deep understanding of the game have led many to anticipate his coaching career.

The 31-year-old quarterback concluded the previous season on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad after stints with both the Minnesota Vikings and the Seahawks.

Ex Rams QB Retires, Goes Into Coaching

Mannion’s NFL journey began when the Los Angeles Rams drafted him in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. During his four years with the Rams, he had limited playing time, participating in only 10 regular-season games and starting just one.

Following his departure from Los Angeles in 2019, Mannion had multiple stints with the Minnesota Vikings and the Seattle Seahawks, although he never played in a regular-season game for the latter.

His most recent engagement was with the Seahawks’ practice squad during the final month of the 2023 season. Notably, Mannion holds the record for the all-time passing leader at Oregon State, accumulating 13,600 yards in his four-year college career.
