Tennessee Volunteers running back Jaylen Wright is one player to watch during the NFL Draft process. The Green Bay Packers will have 11 overall choices in the 2024 NFL Draft. Wright has been rising through the draft ranks lately, and Green Bay needs a running back this summer.
He is 5’11” and weighs 210 pounds. He played as a junior for Tennessee this past season. He averaged 7.4 yards per carry while rushing for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns on 137 carries for the Volunteers in the previous season. In addition, Jaylen Wright caught 22 receptions for 141 receiving yards, averaging 6.4 yards per catch, and no touchdowns.
Wright has run for 100 yards or more in a single game six times this season. He might end up being an NFL starter running back. No running back is expected to be selected until at least the second round of the draft, thus Jaylen Wright may be among the first players taken off the board.
Upon his high school graduation, he was considered a three-star prospect.
While some fans would prefer Wisconsin’s Braelon Allen or Michigan’s Blake Corum, general manager Brian Gutekunst should draft Wright as his running back.
The Green Bay Packers will have five selections in the first three rounds and one of those picks should try and be running back Jaylen Wright from Tennessee.
He would be the perfect offensive scheme fit for head coach Matt LaFleur and would be the perfect running back to eventually replace Aaron Jones. Jones is entering the final year of his contract. AJ Dillon is a pending free agent and wouldn’t be re-signed.
Wright would be a better choice than Dillon. Jaylen Wright is comparing himself to players like Tyler Allgeier of the Atlanta Falcons and James Cook of the Buffalo Bills, according to nfldraftbuzz.com. This season at Tennessee, he has only made one mistake.
Ian Cummings of profootballnetwork.com lists the following as some of Wright’s strong points in his article:
“Very good threat in terms of speed and explosiveness, with the ability to score a home run in open space.”
