Boston — NBA Dunk Contest participant Jayson Tatum of the Celtics is not interested in taking part. However, he is overjoyed to see Jaylen Brown, his running buddy, taking part in the competition.

At NBA’s All-Star Weekend next Saturday, Brown is allegedly one of four competitors—reigning champion Mac McClung, Miami Heat forward Jamie Jaquez Jr., and New York Knicks big Jacob Toppin are also expected to compete—looking to showcase their dunking prowess.

Tatum praised his buddy for volunteering to participate in the Dunk Contest, but Brown is clearly the star of an unimpressive bunch that includes two G League players.

“I’m not sure if he’s officially declared that he’s in, but I think it would be great for him to participate in it,” Tatum remarked after Boston’s TD Garden victory against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday, 125-117. Kind of bring that celebrity influence back to the dunk competition. All the famous guys should be included, in our opinion. I saw it that way growing up. I believe it would be fun to see, and I would love for him to be in it and win.
