Owing to his remarkable speed, Connor McDavid appears to have an advantage over opponents when skating in the NHL. However, McDavid stated he intended to use his preparation to give himself an advantage over the opposition off the rink before he ever played a minute as a professional.
That also applied to his food. Three years prior to his rookie campaign in 2015–16, McDavid began working with former NHL player Gary Roberts and his training staff to gain a better understanding of what was best for his body in terms of diet and hydration.
“You know how passionate they are about nutrition and everything like that,” McDavid stated to ESPN. “So, prior to joining the NHL, I already had a big dosage of that. I was aware of its extreme importance.
McDavid is among the top players in the world, and his Oilers are riding a 16-game winning run, so all of that hard work and dedication to diet and training has paid off.
This week, before the NHL All-Star Weekend in Toronto, which the Edmonton Oilers star has undoubtedly left his stamp on this season, we got up with him. The NHL and McDavid collaborated to return Friday night’s skills competition to its “hockey roots.” Not only that, but he is leading one of the four teams in the NHL All-Star Game on Saturday.
The current NHL MVP discusses the Oilers’ incredible run, whether they should have dismissed Jay Woodcroft, possible changes to the overtime and video review rules, and his favorite non-hockey player to watch.
