Pittsburgh The Cleveland Browns’ defensive end Myles Garrett defeated Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt, preventing Watt from winning his second Defensive Player of the Year award.
With 19 sacks at the end of the Steelers’ historic season, Watt became the first player in NFL history to lead the league in sacks three separate times. In addition, he recorded 36 quarterback hits, 19 tackles for loss, 68 tackles, three fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles, eight passes defended, an interception, and a score.
Two of his 19 sacks came in a game that was crucial to the Steelers’ playoff pursuit in Week 18.
In addition, he received the AFC Defensive Player of the Year award from the “Committee of 101,” was selected as a First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowler, and was chosen as the team MVP by his peers.
With 14 sacks, Garrett tied for eighth place at the end of the season. Along with those stats, he also had thirty quarterback hits, forty-two tackles, seventeen tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and three passes defensed.
