Marcus Goree Enters NIL Agreement With NBA All-Star

Defensive back Marcus Goree has been quite active recently. He disclosed his top five preferred schools on Wednesday and then committed to Tennessee on Friday, becoming their fourth commitment for the 2024 class. He joins forces with corner commit Kaleb Beasley.

Originally from Cleveland, Tennessee, Goree benefits from the state’s legal NIL regulations, allowing high school prospects to endorse and profit from themselves. Boo Carter, a Tennessee target, was the first high school athlete in the state to secure a deal, and Goree has now followed suit.

He has entered into an undisclosed partnership with NBA All-Star LaMelo Ball, who was present on the phone during Goree’s commitment to Tennessee.

Although the specifics of their agreement remain undisclosed, it opens up new avenues for NIL arrangements, potentially marking one of the earliest partnerships between athletes. This raises questions about the distinction between professional athletes investing in companies and real estate versus “investing” in top high school athletes.

Despite not being highly touted by most recruiting services, Goree isn’t ranked among the top 450 players on any site. However, this could change rapidly. Standing at 6-0 and 170 pounds, Goree may be slightly undersized, but his versatility allows him to play various positions in the secondary.
