In 2024, the Tennessee Vols succeeded in recruiting when other universities failed.

All but one of the top ten Alabama athletes in the 2024 recruiting class signed with Auburn or Alabama while still residing in the state.

Jordan Ross, a five-star edge rusher who signed with Tennessee, was the only player ranked in the top ten from Alabama to depart the state.

According to On3, Ross, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound player from Birmingham, Alabama, is the top edge rusher in the country and the ninth-best player overall in the 2024 recruiting class.

Tennessee is gradually emerging as a significant recruitment force. Furthermore, they’re carrying it out in a sustainable manner. The current Tennessee coaching staff is creating a recruiting monster in Knoxville by living up to their principles and fostering an exceptional culture, in contrast to previous Tennessee coaches who achieved rapid success on the recruiting trail by making unfulfilled promises (looking at you, Butch Jones).

One of the largest recruiting victories in school history, UT’s victory in Alabama—where they stole the best edge rusher in the country from Alabama’s backyard (Ross signed with Tennessee before Nick Saban retired—demonstrates the recruiting prowess of Josh Heupel’s staff. The Vols have been finishing second in some significant recruiting contests in recent years, but those results are gradually beginning to translate into victories. Tennessee is so well-positioned to compete in the College Football Playoffs every year for many years to come.
