Gerald Mincey, ex-Tennessee OT, maintains his trash-talking ways following his move to Kentucky.

The transfer portal has led to some recent awkward situations, and there’s one brewing between Tennessee and former offensive tackle Gerald Mincey. Mincey, a veteran lineman, switched to his third SEC East team this offseason, late to the portal and moving north to Kentucky.

Initially peculiar, the situation now seems more understandable after Tennessee acquired former five-star prospect Lance Heard from LSU via the portal.

Mincey recently tried to clarify his departure from Tennessee, mentioning he played through injury during the season and still contributed to the Volunteers’ bowl win. He expressed feeling hurt by negative comments and emphasized the business aspect of his decision, saying, “I did love being a volunteer, but business is business.”

Speaking with Lexington media, Mincey vowed to make an impact against Tennessee, aiming to help “restore the standard” at Kentucky. He expressed excitement for the upcoming game on November 2nd and embraced the underdog role.

However, historically, the standard in this series is Tennessee’s dominance over Kentucky. With an all-time series lead of 83-26-9, Tennessee has consistently prevailed, winning 36 of the last 39 matchups since 1985.

Mincey later acknowledged he was engaging in some playful banter, acknowledging that Tennessee didn’t need any extra motivation. Nevertheless, his comments could serve as bulletin board material for the Volunteers leading up to their November 2nd clash with the Wildcats at Neyland Stadium.
