A previous NFL Most Valuable Player stands up for Russell Wilson amidst a contentious situation with the Broncos.

Despite indications that the Denver Broncos are leaning towards a different quarterback option than Russell Wilson for the upcoming season, some still hold onto the potential he brings as a lead signal caller in 2024. While it’s unlikely to see the veteran donning an orange and blue uniform again, hope remains alive for his future elsewhere.John Elway named best player in NFL history to wear No. 7 - Yahoo Sports

Former NFL MVP quarterback and CBS Sports analyst Matt Ryan addressed the situation in an interview with Andrew Mason of Denver Sports, expressing his belief that Wilson still possesses the ability to perform at a high level, even if he ends up elsewhere than the Broncos.

The Denver Broncos finished the season with a disappointing 8-9 record, signaling the need for significant changes, possibly starting with the quarterback position.

Matt Ryan analyzed why Russell Wilson’s fit with Coach Payton failed to meet expectations last season, citing differences in play styles as the primary reason for their disconnect. The transition from Drew Brees to Wilson represented a substantial shift for Payton, whose success with the New Orleans Saints was built on a different style of play. Despite the initial intention to revitalize Wilson after his challenging 2022 season under former Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett, the plan didn’t materialize after 15 starts.

Looking ahead, Payton and the Broncos aim to find a quarterback better suited to their offensive system. With the 12th overall pick in the upcoming draft, they have an opportunity to select a potential quarterback of the future who aligns more closely with their vision.

As for Wilson, reclaiming his status as a productive and high-level quarterback won’t be easy, but it’s not impossible. Finding a situation that complements his strengths in the run game and play-action could lead to a resurgence in what would be his third NFL franchise.
