Speculation suggests that the Browns may part ways with their recent coach amidst a chaotic coaching turnover.

The Cleveland Browns may find themselves affected by an unusual coaching carousel offseason. A series of events unfolded rapidly, setting the stage for tight ends coach Tommy Rees to potentially secure a head coaching position:

1. Boston College Head Coach Jeff Hafley accepted the defensive coordinator position with the Green Bay Packers.
2. Bill O’Brien, who was hired as the offensive coordinator at The Ohio State University, became the new head coach at Boston College.
3. UCLA Head Coach Chip Kelly took over O’Brien’s former position at Ohio State.

These developments eventually led to rumors linking Rees to UCLA, which was the most surprising twist. To simplify, a head coach in the Big 10 moved to become an offensive coordinator within the same conference.

Though there are more intricacies to the situation, UCLA now finds itself in need of a new head coach.

Here comes Tommy Rees into the picture:

Tommy Rees, aged 31 and a native of Los Angeles, has strong connections to UCLA, including his father Bill’s 15-year tenure under Terry Donahue and his brother Danny’s time as a player for the Bruins. After serving as offensive coordinator at Notre Dame for three seasons and one at Alabama, Rees recently accepted a position as the tight ends coach and pass game specialist for the Cleveland Browns.

The Bruin Report, accessible behind a paywall, hinted at the possibility of Rees joining UCLA.

Regarding Rees, it’s noteworthy in the context of the coaching carousel that an offensive coordinator for prominent college programs transitioned to a position coach role in the NFL. It would make more sense for a major college program to hire him as their head coach considering his roles at Alabama and Notre Dame.

Analogously, the Crimson Tide’s situation, mirroring that of the Browns, saw a new coach depart shortly after joining. Ryan Grubb, who served as the offensive coordinator for the Washington Huskies last year, followed Kallen DeBoer to Alabama but then accepted the offensive coordinator position with the Seattle Seahawks just weeks later.

Currently, the rumors surrounding Rees remain speculative. However, the transitions of O’Brien and Kelly to their new positions began as rumors before becoming reality.
