Now that the period for player buyouts has commenced, the Miami Heat have the opportunity to bolster their roster further. One potential addition being considered is Danilo Gallinari, whom the Pistons released on February 8. However, according to Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel, he suggests that it might not be in the Heat’s best interest to pursue Gallinari.

Winderman argues that acquiring Gallinari might be redundant for the Heat, as they already have a player with a similar skill set in Kevin Love. He suggests that Gallinari’s potential role with the team could be limited, especially considering the presence of players like Caleb Martin and Haywood Highsmith. Winderman proposes that Gallinari might only find a place as a backup option in case Love is unavailable due to injury, which might not be an enticing prospect for him. Additionally, Winderman points out the financial implications of adding Gallinari to the team’s luxury tax considerations.

On the contrary, Anthony Pasciolla of Sports Illustrated believes that Gallinari could still be a valuable addition for the Heat. Pasciolla highlights Gallinari’s ability to shoot from beyond the arc and his versatility in playing alongside various forwards and big men on the Heat’s roster. He emphasizes Gallinari’s experience playing for multiple teams and his potential to contribute as a veteran presence.

Despite differing opinions, there haven’t been recent reports linking Gallinari directly to the Heat since his release from the Pistons. However, given his availability and the interest the Heat have shown in him in the past, his market is likely to pick up soon.

It’s worth noting that the Heat have previously expressed interest in acquiring Gallinari. Reports from sources like the Miami Herald and ESPN have indicated their pursuit of Gallinari during previous trade and buyout scenarios.
