Coventry City’s manager Mark Robins characterized their 2-1 victory over Millwall yesterday as a challenging match, requiring a second-half resurgence to overcome their opponents from South London.
Millwall took the lead at halftime courtesy of Romain Esse’s second goal of the season. However, the Sky Blues managed to claw their way back into the game after the break. Robins made crucial changes, bringing on Ellis Simms and shifting Haji Wright to the left wing, where Wright had previously struck the post from close range in the first half.
Wright was fouled by Japhet Tanganga in the box, leading to a penalty which the club’s record signing converted past Matija Sarkic. Moments later, Callum O’Hare burst through the Millwall midfield and set up Wright for another goal, completing his double within a span of four minutes.
Reflecting on the match, Robins admitted, “It was tough. In the first half, we seemed a bit sluggish and struggled to cope with Millwall’s aggressive approach. Our ball movement and ability to find space were lacking. However, after about an hour, we began to exploit the space behind their high defensive line.”
Robins explained the tactical adjustments made during the game, highlighting the impact of substitutes and their ability to penetrate dangerous areas. He also mentioned the penalty situation, noting that Haji took both as he had experience from Turkey, although there was a bit of a mix-up with Callum O’Hare.
Overall, Robins praised his team’s resilience and ability to adapt, particularly against a well-organized Millwall side. He emphasized the importance of improved communication and tactical awareness in the second half, which ultimately led to their victory.
