The son of ex-Texas Rangers pitcher guides Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl championships.


In 2001, Pat Mahomes Sr. relocated his family to Texas when he joined the Texas Rangers for a single season as a pitcher. At that time, his son, Patrick Mahomes II, was just six years old and embarking on his athletic journey.

Fast forward to the present day, Patrick Mahomes II, the son of the former Texas Rangers pitcher, has surpassed his father’s achievements in baseball by leading the Kansas City Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl LVIII, defeating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime in Las Vegas.

During the game, Mahomes threw for 333 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He orchestrated a game-tying field goal in the final moments of regulation and then engineered the winning touchdown drive in overtime.

Securing the victory with a touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman, Mahomes and the Chiefs became the first team since the 2004 New England Patriots to win consecutive Super Bowls.

Pat Mahomes Sr., hailing from Lindale, Texas, was drafted in the sixth round in 1988 from Lindale High School. He later transitioned to baseball, signing with the Minnesota Twins in 1992 before joining the Texas Rangers as a free agent in 2001. During his tenure with the Rangers, he posted a 7-6 record with a 5.70 ERA in 56 appearances, including four starts, over 107 innings.

Following his final season with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2003, Mahomes Sr. retired from baseball.

In contrast, his son, Patrick Mahomes II, has emerged as one of the most successful quarterbacks in NFL history, becoming the fifth quarterback to win at least three Super Bowl titles as a starter.

Mahomes II boasts numerous accolades, including two NFL MVP awards, an NFL Offensive Player of the Year award, two First Team All-Pro selections, and six Pro Bowl selections. He was also honored as the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year in 2020.

In the regular season, Mahomes II has already amassed 28,424 passing yards, 219 touchdowns, and 63 interceptions.
