The Steelers announced the release of offensive tackle Chukwuma Okorafor on Monday. There has been speculation about the Bengals possibly pursuing Trent Brown or Jermaine Eluemunor in free agency, especially with Jonah Williams likely moving on. Okorafor presents another experienced option for the Bengals to consider, having played 59 games and started in 77 for the Steelers over the last six seasons.
At 27 years old, Okorafor allowed two sacks and 11 pressures in seven starts, according to Pro Football Focus. He was replaced mid-season by 2023 first-round pick Broderick Jones. The Steelers released Okorafor to free up approximately $9 million in cap space. Being a vested veteran, Okorafor is eligible to sign with another team at any point.
Although not flawless, Okorafor could provide Cincinnati with veteran depth, potentially filling a significant gap in their roster. There’s a chance he could join the team even before the new league year commences. With uncertainties surrounding the right tackle position, including Williams’ future with the Bengals, Okorafor might find the idea of signing with Cincinnati in free agency appealing.
