Leeds united defender Liam Cooper is slated for a permanent departure at the conclusion of the season
According to a report from Football Insider, Leeds United will need to fork out a sum between £10-15 million to acquire the services of Welsh international defender Joe Rodon.
Rodon has become a pivotal figure for the Championship club, attracting interest from several Premier League outfits. Despite attempts from multiple clubs to secure his signature in January, they opted against meeting Tottenham’s valuation of the defender. It remains to be seen if Leeds will be willing to meet the asking price for him at the end of the season.
At 26 years old, the central defender isn’t integral to Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the first team at Tottenham, making it logical for the club to cash in on him permanently during the summer transfer window. Given his need for regular playing time at this stage of his career, a return to the north London club wouldn’t be ideal.
It will be intriguing to observe if Rodon can contribute to Leeds finishing the season strongly and securing promotion back to the Premier League. Should he aid the Whites in their return to the top flight, they may have the financial means to secure his permanent signing.
However, Tottenham has reinforced their defensive options this season with signings like Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin, and Ashley Phillips, pushing Rodon further down the pecking order at the club. Therefore, it seems unlikely for him to return in the summer.
Rodon should focus on maintaining his high level of performance to secure a respectable move in the summer transfer window. While his talent is undeniable, he must join a club where he will receive regular first-team opportunities and be valued by the manager.
Tottenham, on the other hand, should target players of higher quality to bolster their squad and compete for major trophies in the upcoming seasons.
