Tennessee has experienced a departure from their on-field staff, as Jerry Mack has officially left for the Jacksonville Jaguars today. Mack, who worked as the running backs coach under Josh Heupel for the past three seasons, had reports of an offer surface on Friday, and today it has been confirmed by multiple sources.

Mack joined the Tennessee staff in 2021 after serving as the former head coach of North Carolina Central and the former offensive coordinator at Rice.

During his tenure at Tennessee, Mack played a significant role in the development of players like Jabari Small, Jaylen Wright, and Dylan Sampson, while also contributing to the recruitment of four-star prospects Cam Seldon and Peyton Lewis.

Since arriving in Knoxville, Heupel has experienced minimal turnover among his coaching staff. He lost receivers coach Kodi Burns to the NFL in 2021 and offensive coordinator Alex Golesh departed for the South Florida head coaching job in 2022. However, both positions were filled internally. It remains to be seen whether Heupel will look externally to fill Mack’s vacancy this time around.

Over the next few days, expect to hear about potential candidates emerging for the position.
