Former Rangers midfielder Matt Crooks has finalized a significant transfer to Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake, marking his return to a major league nearly seven years after departing Ibrox.

During Mark Warburton’s tenure, Rangers’ transfer decisions raised doubts among observers.

Bringing in experienced players like Clint Hill, Philippe Senderos, Niko Kranjcar, and Joey Barton didn’t yield the desired results.

Rangers also attempted to acquire promising young talent from England, but signings such as Jordan Rossiter and Joe Dodoo failed to make the expected impact.

Although the recruitment of two players from Accrington Stanley didn’t excite some fans, Josh Windass proved to be a notable success while Matt Crooks struggled to leave a mark at Ibrox.

Crooks, along with Windass, agreed to join Rangers on a pre-contract deal, displaying significant potential during their time at Accrington.

Standing at 6ft 4in, Crooks showcased an ability to score goals from midfield, leading Rangers to believe he could thrive under Warburton’s management.

However, Crooks made only three appearances for Rangers before being loaned out to Scunthorpe United and eventually sold to Northampton Town.
