Jerry Mack has taken on a position as an assistant in the NFL.
Tennessee’s running backs coach, Jerry Mack, has accepted the same position with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The news, initially reported by 247Sports’ national college football reporter Matt Zenitz on Friday, highlighted Jacksonville’s interest in Mack. The Jaguars, following a 9-8 season, aim to rejuvenate their offensive staff, especially with quarterback Trevor Lawrence still under his rookie contract.
While several suitors courted Tennessee assistants this offseason, Mack becomes the first to depart the program. Despite speculation about a potential return to his alma mater, Auburn, defensive line coach Rodney Garner chose to remain at the University of Tennessee. Head coach Josh Heupel has successfully retained much of his coaching staff, marking a significant development for the Vols moving forward.
Mack played a pivotal role in the development of running back Jaylen Wright, who became Tennessee’s first 1,000-yard rusher since 2015 and declared early for the NFL Draft. Wright, anticipated as a day-two prospect, is joined by fellow running back Jabari Small in the draft process. Mack’s contributions to the University of Tennessee’s running back position have been substantial, and his departure for the NFL would undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the program.
