Announcement: Tennessee’s running backs coach, Jerry Mack, is departing to join the coaching staff of the Jaguars.

Tennessee has officially seen a departure from their on-field staff as Jerry Mack has left for the Jacksonville Jaguars this morning. Mack, who served as the running backs coach under Josh Heupel for the past three seasons, has finalized the move, according to several reports.

News of an offer surfaced on Friday, and today it has been confirmed by multiple sources.

Mack joined the Tennessee staff in 2021 after previously serving as the head coach of North Carolina Central and the offensive coordinator at Rice. During his time at Tennessee, Mack played a pivotal role in the development of players such as Jabari Small, Jaylen Wright, and Dylan Sampson. Additionally, he contributed to securing commitments from highly rated prospects like Cam Seldon and Peyton Lewis.

Since his arrival in Knoxville, Heupel has experienced relatively low staff turnover. He previously lost receivers coach Kodi Burns to the NFL in 2021 and saw offensive coordinator Alex Golesh depart for the South Florida head coaching position in 2022. However, both vacancies were filled internally. It remains uncertain whether Heupel will seek external candidates to fill Mack’s position this time.
