The New York Giants made an unexpected inquiry to the Denver Broncos regarding Davis Webb during the recent season.

The quarterback situation for the New York Giants was tumultuous throughout the season. Despite committing to Daniel Jones with a lucrative four-year, $160 million contract extension during the summer, the season took a downward turn when Jones suffered a season-ending ACL tear just six games into the 2023 season.

This injury significantly disrupted the Giants’ plans for the year. Head coach Brian Daboll had to explore other options on the roster, including Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito, but neither proved to be a long-term solution.

It has now come to light that the Giants were considering another quarterback option during the previous season, and it’s an unconventional choice.

During an appearance on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton revealed that the Giants showed interest in bringing back Davis Webb, who is currently serving as the Broncos’ quarterbacks coach, to play the position amid their offensive struggles.

Payton recounted the situation, saying, “When [Jones] got injured this year, Davis [Webb] received a call asking if he could come back to play. And, I said, ‘Davis, you accepted this coaching position. You’re coaching!’ Additionally, there’s a league rule that prevents someone from playing if they’ve signed a coaching contract for that year… I thought we were going to lose our quarterback coach to the Giants.”
