Jason Wilcox, who accumulated over a century of appearances for Leeds United during his playing tenure, is potentially poised to make a switch to Manchester United, where he would answer to Dan Ashworth if Ashworth assumes the role of sporting director.

Aged 52, Wilcox had a commendable career, securing a Premier League title with Blackburn and participating in 105 matches for Leeds, in addition to earning three caps for the English national team. Currently excelling in his capacity as a football director, Wilcox commenced his journey at Manchester City, serving as the academy director for six years. He subsequently moved to Southampton last summer, where he assumed the role of sporting director, garnering considerable acclaim for his performance.

52-year-old that played 105 times for Leeds United could now join Manchester United

Reports from The Athletic suggest that Wilcox may transition to Manchester United from Southampton, as the Premier League behemoth is in negotiations to secure Ashworth from Newcastle for the position of sporting director. While Newcastle is keen on retaining Ashworth, the allure of Old Trafford is undeniable for some. Manchester United aims to appoint Ashworth as the principal figure in this role but also seeks to assemble a team around him comprising individuals with a proven track record in football management.

Manchester United is actively pursuing Wilcox to complement Ashworth’s potential appointment. Wilcox, who represented Leeds for five years from 1999 to 2004, departing as the club faced relegation, could be seen as a loss for both Leeds and Southampton, particularly given Southampton’s close competition with Leeds in terms of league standings.
