A former standout in Tennessee’s baseball scene eagerly awaits positive updates come Tuesday.
Former Tennessee Volunteers baseball sensation Todd Helton is eagerly anticipating positive news on Tuesday evening. The 17-year Major League Baseball veteran, who is currently on track for induction into the Hall of Fame, awaits the announcement of this year’s Hall of Fame class at 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday.
Helton, known for his entire career with the Colorado Rockies, concluded his remarkable tenure with a .316 batting average, 369 home runs, and 2,519 hits. His achievements include five All-Star appearances, three Gold Glove Awards as a first baseman, and four consecutive Silver Slugger Awards from 2000 to 2003.
In addition to his baseball accolades, Helton also made an impact on the football field while at Tennessee, famously being listed ahead of Peyton Manning on the depth chart in 1994. Manning, in turn, was present at Helton’s final career game at Coors Field.
Despite falling short of enshrinement by 11 votes last year, Helton’s prospects look promising this year, with early ballot returns indicating he is polling at 82 percent, well above the 75 percent required for induction into the Hall of Fame.
