Glover Quin Analyzes the Challenge of Defending Against Hall of Famer Andre Johnson in His First Year in the League.

The 2024 NFL Hall of Fame selections have been announced, with perennial wide receiver Andre Johnson among the honorees. Johnson, who started his career with the Houston Texans and also played for the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, has amassed 14,185 receiving yards, placing him at #11 on the all-time list. He is being recognized for his exceptional playmaking abilities, a fact that former Texans and Lions cornerback Glover Quin vividly recalls.

Quin shared his memories of having to cover Johnson during his rookie year in an interview on Bleav in Lions. Quin remembered how Johnson, who was then serving as the assistant DB coach, would quiz him about his readiness to face Johnson in practice if drafted. Quin assured him he wasn’t afraid, but he soon realized the daunting challenge.

Upon being drafted and stepping onto the field for his first OTAs, Quin found himself matched up against Johnson in practice, assigned to cover him from the slot position. He was taken aback by Johnson’s imposing stature and admitted to feeling intimidated, even hesitant to engage with the seasoned receiver.

Quin’s initial apprehension highlights the imposing presence and reputation that Johnson carried, even before his induction into the Hall of Fame. Over time, Quin eventually formed a bond with Johnson, but not without first overcoming his trepidation in facing the legendary wide receiver.
