Detroit Police Express Confidence in Draft Security for All Lions

Detroit is set to host significant sporting events in the coming months, including the Midwest Regional of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament and the NFL Draft.

The Midwest Regional is scheduled for March 29 and 31 at Little Caesars Arena, while the NFL Draft will take place from April 25-27 in and around Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit.

The NFL Draft, which has rotated through various locations since 2015, is anticipated to draw over 300,000 attendees to Detroit in April, necessitating increased police presence in and around the city.

Detroit Police Chief James White, in a recent interview with Lansing-based TV station WILX-TV, assured viewers that the police department is prepared for the heightened activity surrounding the draft. The department’s efforts will involve gun-free zones, helicopters, undercover officers, and utilization of the department’s real-time crime center.

White expressed confidence in their plan, partnerships, and community support. Moreover, he mentioned that his department will closely examine the shooting incident at the Kansas City Chiefs’ championship parade to learn from it and enhance security measures.

In addition to football-related activities, the draft will feature musical performances, interactive exhibits, and autograph sessions, among other events, all of which will be free to attend.
